BLACK TIE
MISSION & HISTORY.
The Black Tie Coalition was founded by Matthew A. Mazzuchelli, a Massachusetts funeral director whose firsthand experiences within the funeral industry highlighted urgent areas in need of reform. Matthew graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration from The Citadel: Military College of South Carolina in 2017, FINE Mortuary College in 2019, and has worked in various corporate funeral homes until becoming Decedent Affairs Coordinator at South Shore Hospital. Currently, Matthew is furthering his higher education as an evening student while working as Decedent Affairs Coordinator and as President of the Black Tie.
Working within hospital systems broadened Matthew's perspective on the universal need for dignity in death, encompassing both the funeral home and healthcare aspects of end-of-life care and afterlife care. His unique insights into the shortcomings of current death care practices, from lack of accessible funeral funding to the emotional and financial strain placed on grieving families, fueled the mission of The Black Tie Coalition. Our organization is committed to addressing these critical areas, advocating for systemic change, and providing direct support to ensure that dignity in death is a universal standard, not a privilege.
Recognizing the profound impact of financial constraints on the dignity of burial services, Matthew set out to create an organization dedicated to ensuring everyone receives a proper and dignified farewell, regardless of their or their family's financial circumstances. We are a humanistic organization, and can assist regardless of religion or adherence to religious burial law.
