ABOUT
BLACK TIE
The Black Tie Coalition is a nonprofit organization committed to ensuring that every individual receives a proper and dignified burial, irrespective of their own, or their family’s financial circumstances. Our mission is to support not only the deceased but also to ensure their grieving families and friends can honor them with the respect and dignity they deserve, without the burden of financial strain.
MISSION & HISTORY.

The Black Tie Coalition was founded by Matthew A. Mazzuchelli, a Massachusetts funeral director whose firsthand experiences within the funeral industry highlighted urgent areas in need of reform. Recognizing the profound impact of financial constraints on the dignity of burial services, Matthew set out to create an organization dedicated to ensuring everyone receives a proper and dignified farewell, regardless of their or their family's financial circumstances. We are a humanistic organization, and can assist regardless of religion or adherence to religious burial law.
Working within hospital systems broadened Matthew's perspective on the universal need for dignity in death, encompassing both the funeral home and healthcare aspects of end-of-life care, and after-life care. His unique insights into the shortcomings of current death care practices, from lack of accessible funeral funding to the emotional and financial strain placed on grieving families, fueled the mission of The Black Tie Coalition. Our organization is committed to addressing these critical areas, advocating for systemic change, and providing direct support to ensure that dignity in death is a universal standard, not a privilege.
